HD Madness

2014-10-17

These days HD is pretty much in everything.Even in such a thing not connected to High Definition anyhow. Just do not get me wrong. HD itself is not a bad thing and myself I clearly prefer watching HD then standard definition. The bad thing is, everything is getting labelled as HD. Sadly people working in marketing companies are not idiots and if they label something as HD it simply means there is the target audience for such labels. Here some things I seen labelled as HD for past couple of years.

  • HD LNB
  • HD RG-6 Cable
  • HD Scart Leads
  • HD Headphones
  • HD MP3 players
  • HD Music recorders (for “professional” musicians)
  • HD Sound Amplifiers
  • HD Binoculars (it’s not a joke)
  • HD Memory cards
  • HD Safety razor ( what an idiocy!!!)
  • HD Sound mixer
  • 3G/HD/SD-SDI converter – you better stop laughing because somebody buys it
  • High-Definition Powered Loudspeakers
  • HD – Car diagnostic system adapter for GPS receiver
  • Philips HD9220 AirFryer
  • HD Glasses – hold on tight :)
  • Philips HD8325/47 Espresso Machine
  • HD Pillow Case Cushion Covers
  • HD Padlocks
  • HD USB Leads
  • HD Coveralls
  • HD Shoes
  • HD Sexy pyjamas
  • HD Hedge Trimmer
  • HD Wood Screws…

I could carry on with a list but I simply fed up. This is an actual list and I did not made up anything. If you do not believe me go check it on Google yourself. As I mentioned earlier, if not just Mickey Mouse teleshopping companies, but also big companies like Philips labelling any random product as HD it meant there are potential customers for it. I do not know really what is happening in 21st  I can only call mass degradation.

Here is the definition of HD for those poor idiots who think that HD is just something “cool and decent”

High-definition video is video of higher resolution and quality than standard-definition. While there is no standardized meaning for high-definition, generally any video image with more than 480 horizontal lines (North America) or 576 lines (Europe) is considered high-definition

But for those idiots who prefer HD socks to normal ones HD stands for Highly Degraded!!!

There reason I decided to write about HD because I just simply had enough. Fair enough If HD  stands not for it appropriate definition, but just for something good quality.  Actually no – you can call HD any crap also. Just a few days later I decided to make some videos for YouTube. For that purpose I wanted to use my wife’s laptop (a bit easier to work with multimedia because it uses Windows while on my own PC I installed Ubuntu). After plugin in the microphone and trying to record anything all I had just a terrible background noise.

This is an actual HD sound for you. I can proudly say it is Toshiba Satellite L670 powered by Realtek HD. Obviously it not possible to use such a recording for anything, but Toshiba is clever they cutting off the noise by using equaliser. The bad thing with the noise good half of the vocal gets cut off also. Watch this video, even my  ancient Dell Lattidude LX (1999) made a better recording.
